Aetna, now a part of the CVS family of companies, is one of the largest insurance companies in the US.  Extremely competitive in the health benefit market, they leverage resources from the parent company to offer a wide variety of services and plans.

Anthem Blue Cross has long history of offering group benefits in California.  Now within the Elevance family of companies, it remains a competitive force in the benefit market place.  Anthem Blue Cross is an independent member of the Blue Cross Association and is a for profit company.

Blue Shield of California, a not for profit company, is California based to offer benefit plans exclusively to California businesses and residences.  Blue Shield of CA is an Independent member of the Blue Shield Association.

Kaiser Perrmanente, a not for profit company, is leading Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) carrier headquartered in Oakland, California.  Now operating in 8 states and DC, they offer integrated health care across their many facilities and hospitals.

Health Net, now within the Centene family of companies, was founded in California. They offer a board range of employee benefit plans, both HMO and PPO.

Sutter Health is a hospital system in California that created their own Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) several year ago.  Offering health plans using the Sutter Health network of facilaties and hospitals exclusively, they have become a competitive alternative to other HMO organizations.

Western Health Advantage, a not for profit company, is based in Sacramento CA and offers a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) to several northern California counties, spreading form Sacramento to Marin.
